Richard Gomes
Richard Gomes is the Chief Programme Officer of Shell Foundation. In this capacity, he leads the deployment of Shell Foundation’s charitable resources to support inclusive business and financial solutions that improve income, health and education outcomes for people earning less than a living wage.
Richard leads the Foundation's programme team to build investment theses, originate innovative partnerships, build the capacity of portfolio partners, manage risk and optimise performance; and is a permanent member of the Foundation’s Investment Committee. Since Richard joined the Shell Foundation in 2009, the Foundation’s portfolio has improved the lives of 220m people, created 700K jobs and leveraged more than $8.5bn to scale impact.
Previously, Richard worked for the Shell Group across a range of financial and commercial roles in the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.
He holds a BSc in Economics from the University of Warwick and a postgraduate diploma from the London School of Journalism.
Richard Gomes is based in London, UK, joined the Value for Women Board in May 2019 and assumed the role of Board Chair in 2023.
